Strawberry Picking Season!

Strawberry Picking Season!

There is nothing better than fresh British strawberries at the height of the season, especially when you have picked them yourself. I love them just as they are; my other half likes to spoil them with a sprinkling of sugar and cream. The weather this morning wasn’t great but as soon as the sun came out I knew I wanted a trip to Clive’s Fruit Farm, so we could pick some strawberries, even though I was covered in paint after a morning of decorating.

Clive’s is a great local farm shop in Upton Upon Severn with a lovely café and shop selling an abundance of local produce, including their lovely bottled apple juice. Throughout the year you can pick your own fruit from apples to strawberries and cherries, it’s a great afternoon out for young an old and you can even pick your own eggs from their chickens.

There is something rather rewarding about picking your own strawberries, I love getting home and trying to decide what to do with them. Of course we had some for dessert tonight but I think there might be some jam making on the cards…

If you are looking for something to do this summer take a trip strawberry picking, the sweet smell of the warm fruit in the sun makes the world a happier place and what makes it even better is that strawberries are really good for you:

  • They are full of vitamin C, about 70g of strawberries provides your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C, which boosts your immune system.
  • They are a great source of fibre to help keep your digestive system in check.
  • If the articles online are to be believed they can also help whiten your teeth.

If I haven’t already persuaded you, go pick your own strawberries; they taste a lot nicer than the ones in the supermarket!!
