As many people know we are in the progress of renovating what we believe will be our dream home, however this has not been without a few hurdles and still a long way to go but I am hopeful we will be able to move in before 2014 is out, fingers crossed during the summer.

Some people might think we are mad, the property is on the riverside of the Severn, as I am sure you can imagine this has caused a few issues over the last few weeks.  After several weeks of the water levels going up and down it eventually made it into the house last weekend, we became ”Willow Cottage in Severn”.  Many people are surprised by how calm I am about this, this is the opposite to my normal nature; but it is still a building site and we aren’t living there yet, there are so many people a lot worse off than us.  It has still been a hassle for us, we are unable to easily get to the house, the only access possible on boat or with waders, watching members of the search and rescue team row down our road last weekend was quite an odd experience.

We have been lucky as we have only had a few inches of water in the house, a lot less than several neighboring properties.  It is frustrating how much the floods will delay our project but it has allowed me to realise what it is like to live so close to the river and appreciate how lucky we have been.  I went down to the town earlier on today and it was mad to see members of the army in the town, but the work they have been doing helping victims of the floods and running a “shuttle bus” service has been brilliant.

Across the country the terrible weather of the last few weeks and months have and continue to cause problems and suffering for hundreds of people but i think we need to take the time to thank to appreciate the work of the likes of the Emergency Services, Search and Rescue, Environment Agency, Army etc.  Personally I have found their work invaluable, social media updates have allowed me to keep update with the situation in Upton and plan traveling around Worcestershire.
